The Cottage at Aikenhead House

The Cottage is a cosy, self-contained single storey cottage attached to Aikenhead House. It is a perfect place to  relax and unwind – curling up by the wood burning stove or enjoying the rural views. It is also a great base for exploring and adventuring.

We have designed The Cottage to be as accessible as possible, although the 3ft thick stone walls means that we have not been able to widen the existing doorways. It is single-story and suitable for a lightweight wheelchair. The kitchen and bathroom are adapted for ease of use.

The Cottage has a private wood burning hot tub. We provide enough logs for one night's use. You can bring your own extra logs or buy more from us. We will explain how to use the hot tub – it takes about 2 hours to fire up.

We provide fresh baked sourdough bread, eggs from our chickens, butter, milk, tea & coffee. Breakfast meat or BBQ meat bundles, cheese or antipasti board and picnic lunches are available upon request.

We are passionate about providing an eco-friendly experience for you – with organic and locally sourced products and food wherever possible. We ask guests to respect our ethos and consider energy use, recycling and waste during their stay.

The Cottage is available from £125 per night with a minimum two-night stay.

A basket of firewood for The Cottage stove is provided complimentary. Additional baskets of logs are £20 and buckets of kindling are £5.

The hot tub is wood fired and the first fire up is included. Additional fire ups are charged at £20.

We have modernised as much of this 200 year old building as possible, but please note that it will never be as warm as a modern building!

Being in the country is fairly quiet but being a smallholding and surrounded by farmland, at certain times of the year there maybe noise from tractors especially during harvest. We are also very busy all year round, so you will see us at all times of the day working with the animals and in the vegetable garden. We try to be as quiet as possible when guests are around.
